For over two years, Ingrid Bowman and Briana Westmacott experimented with co-mentorship and collaborated closely to write Chapter 8 of Better Practices as part of a nationwide, online mentorship project. This mentorship project was designed and organized by two editors, Amy Cicchino and Troy Hicks, and included over 40 writing instructors. The process itself served as an inspirational collaborative exercise in classroom reflection and mentorship. The product, an award-winning book with instructional materials for teachers, offers theoretically-grounded approaches to the teaching and assessment of online and hybrid writing. Ingrid and Briana’s chapter is an in-depth exploration of one specific teaching technique that they continually develop to apply in several of their undergraduate writing courses in the EMS program (Ling 3B, Ling 3C and Ling 12).
