2025-2026 Graduate Entry Level Placement in English (Grad ELPE)

 

Graduate Students

The Fall Grad ELPE for new graduate students took place on August 29, 2025 and December 8-9, 2025.  The Fall Grad ELPE placement process is complete.

Note: For the 2026-27 academic year, the Grad ELPE will take place online toward the end of August 2026. More details will be posted here throughout Spring 2026.

Some international graduate students are exempt from having to take the Grad ELPE (for example, students who completed all years of an undergraduate degree at an approved English medium institution). Exemptions are determined by the Graduate Division and are made available to the EMS Program prior to the Grad ELPE date. Students should review the Graduate Division website and contact that office with any questions regarding exemptions.

 

Prospective International Teaching Assistants

ITA Certification and Evaluation process is required of all international students whose home language is other than English who are offered a TAship for the first time. These evaluations are arranged for students at the request of the student’s home department.

There are two processes for prospective ITAs: the English Interview and the Standard Evaluation. 

  • For each academic year, the English Interview will take place via Zoom during the third week of August. (For the 2026-27 academic year, the dates are Monday, August 17, 2026 -- Friday, August 21, 2026, Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). 
  • For each academic year, the Standard Evaluation will take place via Zoom during the first week of September. (For the 2026-27 academic year, the dates are Wednesday, September 2, 2026 -- Monday, September 8, 2026, Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). 

Please note – there are no exemptions to the ITA Certification and Evaluation process.
